Since we didn’t have much for electricity or battery-powered handheld devices and vehicles back then, it’s scary to think how another strong solar storm could affect our modern technology.
Reading up on the solar storm of 1859, I’m reading this:
"Telegraph systems all over Europe and North America failed.[4] Telegraph pylons threw sparks and telegraph paper spontaneously caught fire. Some telegraph systems appeared to continue to send and receive messages despite having been disconnected from their power supplies."
Does anyone have any expert knowledge about this?
