I am in India and have been studyin the commercial aspects of PV panels and their usage for many years now
is it safe to say that even today…PV s are exorbitantly expensive and also inefficient..and hence totally unviable as alarge scale source of energy
for eg..PV panels here in India r roughly 5 USD per watt..add to that te costs of battery and the other minor equipment..the costs become prohibitive for a homeuser….
Same i guess goes for Windpower a simple 1.2kw turbine costs around 5000 USDthats again approx 5 USD per watt
whats up with the researchers? disappoints me no end
i heard abt a few new solar technologies..but both r lab stage or not meant for individual home user ..yet at least
on the other hand i have had some success in living off the grid with a simple rural technology like a roof top Bio gas plant installed using an highly improved technology by an NGO here in India for me
i run my small gensets and cook using that bio gas which is fed with normal day to day veggie wastes
Also ..my dream of runnin Airconditioning on sun power will remain a pipe dream it seems
